      As a Resident Advisor at the Cheltenham Youth Facility, my main duty is to oversee behavioral and physical management amongst a unit consisting of anywhere from fifteen to forty male youths. After completing the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions Department of Juvenile Services Entrance Level Training Program, I was placed on a unit to facilitate the pre-dispositional program. I maintain a consistent count of all youths, as well as conduct daily observations, searches and ‘shakedowns’ (thorough searches of the youths’ living areas). My main duties also include incident reporting through both manual and electronic documentation; followed with processing the incidents with the youths by orchestrating peer mediations as well as conducting/ facilitating group counseling sessions amongst the entire unit. I also collect behavioral data on each youth to upkeep the daily level/ point system. I also maintain a running log of all interactions amongst youths, transfers of youth, transfers of staff, and movement of the youths and staff. I, at often times, assist the youths in preparing for their court hearings/ appearances by assisting them in writing letters to the judge or court appointed officials, and by acting as a liaison between the youths’ advocates, lawyers, therapists, teachers, case managers and parents and/or legal guardians.
