During this food service placement I reviewed the Emerald Hospital menu against the Queensland Nutrition Standards for Meals and Menus and developed a set of recommendations allowing the menu to meet the standards. I travelled to rural Queensland and completed a range of projects at Emerald Hospital. My community nutrition placement took place at Blue Care in Alexandra Hills. My project was to develop and run an education program for carers of those with dementia. The aim of the project was to help carers manage malnutrition in those they were caring for. I completed my clinical placement at the Princess Alexandra Hospital during the first two semesters of my Master’s Degree. During semester one, I worked on the Oncology Ward, providing nutrition support, education and advice to patients. In semester two, my workload was in the Geriatric and Rehabilitation Unit and on the Orthopaedic Ward. Here, I continued to develop my medical nutrition therapy skills as well as providing nutrition support and education to patients.
