The largest part of my job is developmental editing and art planning. I edit one 4,000-word feature and one 2,000-word column bimonthly, working with authors toward allotment in a magazine issue on a rolling basis. I generally work with these authors for about six months (with lots of variation) to develop their manuscripts and bring them to publication. I also report on life science topics; manage, edit, and produce blogs and digital features; produce podcasts or videos; and repackage standalone portions of longform print content for an online audience.
