Bio
Elyse Lohrbach
From the day I met Katie, I recognized that hard-to-find special mix of heart, humor, and passion for her work. We collaborated on several projects while I was her colleague, including an incredible new education program focused on teaching elementary students Astronomy. She has a very logistical mind and often asked the questions we needed to ensure the design and execution of the program were both student and presenter-centered. This doesn't surprise me in hindsight as Katie is a servant leader - she does everything in her power to remove barriers and obstacles for her direct reports and program audiences. Later serving as her supervisor, I was incredibly lucky to have Katie lead up - she was my constant guide, helping me navigate the waters of the new-to-me department and had such patience and grace with me as I learned all the complex details of her program area. Her attention to detail was extremely clear; she managed a large team of educators, a fleet of vehicles, and one of the larger program budgets at COSI, and the evaluation and metrics of that program provided quantitative evidence of her success as a leader. This success didn't stop at her own program but continued to flow throughout the programs of her colleagues and the organization. Katie is a thoughtful member of any team and always willing to serve for the good of the group. If you have a complex program or initiative that has many moving parts and requires a team player and a lot of dedication and heart, Katie can tackle it. If our future professional paths were to cross again, I'd consider myself a very lucky person to work with her once more.

Katie is the leader everyone wishes they could report to. She maintains a level head in stressful situations while providing solid guidance and direction to her team. She blends action and direction with compassionate empathy in a way that can't be taught. Her ability to think critically, strategically and collaboratively make her a phenomenal trailblazer in the workforce.
