Working with another French-speaking au pair, I took care of two tri-lingual boys (ages 4 and 6). We were responsible for their time before and after school, devising appropriate activities to either stimulate their minds or to allow them time to relax and play. It was a great desire of our employers (i.e. the parents) that we constantly engaged the boys in conversation, songs, games, or stories that would increase their language capacity. I taught Latin to students in 8th, 9th, and 10th grade at a classical Christian school. In 8th and 9th grade, the students were finishing their study of Latin grammar; in 10th grade they were beginning to read original Latin texts. I taught from Wheelock's Latin, often using my own worksheets as a supplement. The authors we studied in 10th grade included Caesar, Cicero, and Virgil. I was the faculty sponsor of Certamen, an academic bowl with questions based in Latin language, ancient Roman history and culture, and Greco-Roman mythology. We competed against other Latin students from public and private schools across Maryland. I also was an assistant to the middle school cross-country team, which I enjoyed watching develop in two years from a small group to a thriving team competing in regular meets. Show less
