I found Katie to be a wonderful manager, and I’d be delighted to work with her again. I worked on Katie’s fully remote team for about 10 months at Copper. She leads teams with empathy and diligence, and she is especially good at managing the difficulties that come with a remote team. She puts great effort into fostering a good team culture and camaraderie, through team activities and celebrations. She’s direct and thoughtful in her communication, and made sure to share changes in the company’s direction with as much clarity as possible. Katie is receptive to feedback and she constantly used this feedback to improve our team’s processes. I could always count on her to weigh in on and advocate for my initiatives with senior leadership, to follow through on anything we talked about. Her project management skills are top-notch: she’s very organized at keeping projects and stakeholders on track, and documents processes thoroughly. As a manager, Katie earns my highest recommendation.

I worked with Katie for about nine months while we were both at Cerner. Katie was the Engineering Lead, managing a newly formed development team made up of developers pulled from multiple other teams and new contractors, in a domain area unfamiliar to everyone on the new team, and because of Covid 19, we worked in a completely remote environment. She took on the challenge with true dedication to serving her team and Cerner. Katie’s planning, documentation and communications skills proved to be a perfect asset for our team. She was always a few steps ahead of the engineers, product owner and product manager to make sure the team had the appropriate information to get their jobs done. She worked to unblock her engineers and made sure they had what they needed to proceed with their tasks. She periodically contributed code changes to help with hitting milestones. She also took on the role and responsibilities of a Product Owner at times due to a lack of resourcing on the team. She set clear expectations and held her team accountable. Before taking PTO, she clearly laid out the priorities for each team member, so they had clear direction while she was out. While Katie was always friendly and professional, she spoke up to advocate for her team. She communicated regularly with Product Managers and Leadership to set realistic expectations and milestones for her team's projects, and she worked with the team to deliver on those milestones. Katie's level of dedication to her team truly sets her apart, and I would be very lucky to get to work with her in the future.
