I had the pleasure of working with Katie whilst at The Big Issue Foundation. She is passionate, kind-hearted and hardworking - ensuring that Big Issue vendors felt valued and creating opportunities for them to progress. Katie has the ability to work across different facets of the organisation and did a sterling job at building and sustaining key partnerships with external agencies to support opportunities for vendors. She also went above and beyond to offer instrumental support to vendors during the pandemic, who without her empathy and care would have been in a very different place. Thank you Katie and wishing you every future success - you will be an asset to whoever you work for!

Work Coach
-
Sep 2007 - Dec 2016
In my time working for the DWP, I held numerous roles. Starting off working as an administrative officer working on Incapacity Benefit, where I worked on all areas of admin including telephony. I then moved to work on social fund, where I covered all aspects including again working on telephony, taking in excess of 130 calls per day. Also worked administratively processing applications for community care grants, crisis loans and maternity grants. I then moved to crisis loan admin, where I was in communication with Jobcentres across the region to ensure that crisis loan payments were administered at the correct location and time. I gained a promotion and started working as a work coach. Where I took new claims to benefits, this is where I got involved with more specialised areas including being a Specialist Point Of Contact (SPOC) for those with addictions and as part of this I worked in collaboration with drug treatment providers to support clients in their premises on an outreach basis. I was also responsible for supporting clients who were under 18 who made claims to benefits as well as then becoming a hardship officer - where I processed hardship claims. From there an opportunity came up to work on a programme supporting families in a multi agency approach, with police, probation, education welfare and family support workers. This role worked between the local authority and the DWP. Show less
