As part of my Master's program, I worked as a therapist with elementary school students for a school-based mental health program called Linkages to Learning (part of Family Services). I worked with individual clients, families, and groups to help students improve their mental health and emotional development. Social Work Intern

During my time with the Catholic Charities Independent Living and Teen Parent program, I worked under the supervision of an experienced and licensed social worker to complete tasks relevant to helping manage her caseload and developing my skills as a social work student. I also managed my own modest case load through conducting one-on-one home visits with the clients in order to monitor their needs and progress with goals. In addition, I completed administrative assignments designed to improve the efficacy and efficiency of the provision of services for the clients. Specifically, I drafted and designed a new psychosocial assessment format given to youth upon their placement with the program. My role in the office and these assignments helped me to learn a great deal about the needs of youth transitioning out of the foster care system and about how to effectively provide services for these youth. Applied Behavioral Analysis Technician
-
Jun 2012 - Oct 2012
I learned a lot during my time at CSAAC, particularly developing skills in behavioral therapy for young children showing signs of Autism or other developmental issues. During my time in this role, I was trained in Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapeutic techniques by experienced professionals. I administered ABA therapy to several young children (ages 2-3) as part of the Intensive Early Intervention program. Through regular ABA therapy administered by myself and other ABA technicians, these children were able to significantly improve their language and social skills. I also participated in the clinic meetings for each client to collaborate with the parents, supervisors, and psychiatrists to develop the best treatment plan for each child. Show less
