I am the Founder and Managing Director of Earthian Zero Waste Shop. We run our small business on Parchment Street, in Winchester. The shop provides a wide variety of dried food, herbs, spices, coffee and cooking oils that customers can buy by weight. They can bring their own containers to refill endlessly without producing any unnecessary single-use packaging. We aim to be Winchester’s hub for ethical and environmentally friendly produce and activities. Customers can come into our shop and feel confident when they buy from us that we've done the leg-work and the product they pick up is earth friendly and ethically produced. We also have ambitious benchmarks we are aiming towards, such as being accredited as a 'zero to landfill' business, reaching Net Zero and being accredited as a B-Corp, cementing that we are ethical and socially responsible in all our practices. I was responsible for promoting SUSU's democratic processes, continuously working on innovative ways to engage the student population in what their union does and how it represented them. I would plan and deliver the student elections - each year SUSU would hold an average of 8 elections to fill 750+ voluntary positions. I helped to manage our officer accountability to create a transparent and student-led environment. I also worked with our volunteers by delivering training, providing administrative support and guiding them through our processes. I also had responsibility over our Discipline and Complaints process, often providing mediation and conflict resolution for informal complaints but also administrative support to the chair where Disciplinary Hearings were required. While studying at the University Of Chichester I was employed by the Students' Union on a short term contract as a Marketing Intern. The main focus for the internship was the Freshers Fayre which involved seeking out and negotiating with local businesses to attend the Fayre to promote to students. This allowed me to gain valuable skills in business contracts, negotiating in meetings and networking to build strong working relationships. I was also involved in producing images to be used on social media and the website, I gained basic skills in InDesign and Photoshop as part of my training for this role. I wrote for and monitored the social media streams for the Union on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram using Hootsuite software and wrote a series of blog posts for the website. I was very fortunate to be employed on a 6 month contract with the Weald and Downland Living Museum, after my contract ended I stayed on as a volunteer for a further 4 months. I learned a tremendous amount working here in my first full-time role since completing my A-Levels, gaining skills that I still use in my work today. As a Schools Assistant, I worked with children between the ages of 7 and 15 who were visiting the Museum on school trips. The role was interesting and varied as I was part of the process from beginning to end. I worked part of the week in the office helping to book in future trips and collate papers ahead of workshops.
