As a training supervisor, I am responsible for all aspects involved in hiring new counselors. I interview candidates, score the interviews, make selections, and onboard for the first 6 months of employment. I provide individualized and group trainings to ensure that new counselors are prepared to successfully complete probation. If someone is not progressing after multiple interventions, then I justify their release of employment. I write and reform agency policies and procedures to meet the changing demands in the field. I am a subject matter expert on policy and explain all rules and changes to the field. In addition to my other responsibilities, I am also in charge of researching and making decisions on area appeals. I hold informal appeal meetings to determine if the appeal can be resolved prior to the formal hearing. If that cannot happen, then I am the agency expert that must defend the decisions made by the counselor through a formal hearing process. I complete area presentations on training topics for the field. My daily tasks are completed in-person and virtually, depending on the need. In addition to my assigned duties, I am also a member of a National Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, tasked with extensive professional development, training the field about unconscious bias, and creating a repository for government agencies to access for staff development. • Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor
      • Jan 2016 - Apr 2019

As a VRC, I counseled a caseload of 80-100 individuals with disabilities from diverse populations throughout the State of Ohio. I reviewed medial and psychological information to determine disability and eligibility for the program. I then justified the eligibility with a formal write up highlighting significant functional limitations. I assisted each individual in identifying barriers to employment and worked to rectify these through counseling and resource referrals. I worked with community rehabilitation providers to make certain that appropriate employment goals were being investigated in the community. The goal was to find competitive, integrated employment for each person that I served. I collaborated with providers to meet individual needs, appropriately. I effectively communicated with all invested stakeholders for transparency during the vocational rehabilitation process. My success record was above the agency average. As a VRC, I required exceptional communication and time management skills. Problem solving and multi-tasking were executed on a daily basis to meet the demands of the job and agency timelines. I developed referrals in underserved neighborhoods and populations. I was responsible for outreach and marketing the services provided by the agency. I am well-versed in Labor Market Information, understanding employment trends at the national, state and local levels, and identifying requirements needed to obtain specific job outcomes. Show less
