Based on working for Kathy at the American Heart Association, I have never observed someone else with such a remarkable and superior acumen for fundraising, development, management and community building. Her ability, in her quiet way, to build and maintain long lasting relationships is remarkable and a testament to her attentive and compassionate approach to people. As a manager, she remains one of my top experiences with a leader who is flexible, adaptable, collaborative, purpose driven and encourages you to spread your wings.

When I began my career at the American Heart Association, Kathy was my direct supervisor in the communications department. She was a fantastic manager and mentor! One of the many qualities I admired was Kathy's ability to bring many departments together. Instead of working in silos, Kathy did a great job of bringing people together and improving the organization's internal communications. The ability to manage effectively from afar is another quality of Kathy's I admired. She was based in Raleigh and I was based in Charlotte. Kathy has a gift of hiring talented people who do not need to be micro-managed. She provided the support and tools I needed to succeed, which I greatly appreciated. To this day, I use communication tactics that I learned from Kathy. She is a great leader and manager!
