    • Biogas Maven at kathypuffer.com
      • Nov 2013 - Present

After years of studying biogas design and application, Kathy noted that the dry, often inaccessible biogas technical manuals and classes were a barrier to biogas adoption. She applied her teaching expertise to develop training programs and curricula that are engaging for diverse learners across age and culture. Kathy has a command of diverse clean cooking technologies, including solar cookers and dehydrators, in addition to biogas. Instead, as an experienced homesteader and certified permaculture designer, Kathy discerns how these appropriate technologies can be well integrated into the context of the home, community, or organization, to maximize synergies and beneficial outcomes. For example, Kathy teaches how to easily recycle food waste from the kitchen into biogas that then cooks your food, and produces fertilizer, which again then allows the growing of highly-nutritious food. It’s a whole system! In addition, the use of solar cookers increases resilience and decreases energy use. In 2014, Kathy earned a certificate in hydroponics from Boswyck Farms in Queens, NY and completed an introductory farming and ranching course with Holistic Management International. This professional development prepared her to be a successful small-scale vertical aeroponics farmer and business owner of Hudson Valley Vertical Farms, Inc., a micro farm that features a winter CSA providing produce, eggs, sprouts, microgreens, and honey to the local community. Kathy’s educational expertise is grounded in 20 years of working as a NY State certified teacher of the speech and hearing impaired that enables her to work with all ages. Due to this expertise, she has honed her ability to adapt her educational methods for specialized, practical applications. Kathy has also completed training as a permaculture teacher.Connect with Kathy at kathypuffer.com Show less

As secretary I scheduled board meetings, took meeting minutes, managed social media posts and pages, and communicated with potential funders. Using the Network for Good platform I wrote news letters, input contacts, organized fundraisers, tracked money raised, and wrote thank you notes. As a Co-founder of Solar CITIES, Inc. I volunteered to teach multiple biogas workshops in the US and in the Caribbean and shared curriculum and Power Points with Solar CITIES team members. I presented on the value of small scale biogas educational hubs at UN sponsored events in NYC, the North East Organic Farmers Association, the University of Massachusetts, PASA, Bronx Center for Science and Math, Mercy College, the Science Barge, University of Notre Dame, Hinche Haiti and many other community events.
