During her undergraduate tenure at Ramapo College of New Jersey, Kathryn Lee consistently impressed me with her work ethic, organizational skills and commitment to her community as both an employee at the Center for Student Involvement and perhaps more vitally, as co-chair of the Relay for Life committee. Kathryn has been involved with Relay since her first year at Ramapo and the program has evolved into THE major fund raising event co-sponsored by almost all of our over 100 recognized and registered organizations. Kathryn started with Relay as a committee member during her first year and at the end of the spring semester decided to take her involvement to the next level and became co-chair. As co-chair (a position she held until she graduated), she was responsible for managing committee members and running weekly meetings to keep them informed and productive. She maintained an annual event budget and organized all logistics of the event from coordinating with outside vendors for food to forging sponsorships and donations in the form of prizes/decorations. She helped to create an ubiquitous marketing campaign to advertise the event and raise funds and worked with the committee to recruit and retain volunteers, and acted as the liaison to Ramapo's administrative offices (including the President's Office). In her first year, the event was attended by 900 people -- an increase by several hundred from past years -- and in the following three years was attended by 1,000+ students & faculty/staff. During her tenure, Relay for Life raised over $250,000 over 4 years.
