    • Summer 2014 Lima, Perú- Program Assistant
      • Aug 2013 - Jul 2014

This month-long study abroad internship program allowed Purdue University students to work along side Purdue alumni and other business professionals in Lima, Peru. As the graduate assistant, I collaborated with the program directors, College of Liberal Arts Associate Deans Song No and Dennis Bowling, in the year-long planning process for the trip. In March 2014 I traveled to Lima with the program director to finalize internship placements and travel plans to ensure a smooth transition for the students' trip this summer. In June 2014 I worked alongside Purdue Liberal Arts faculty to create/modify course curricula for the Spanish language and culture classes. Students were enrolled in either Spanish levels 1-6 of language instruction classes, or conducted an independent study. Students also had the opportunity to take a Latin American culture course.During my time in Lima, I taught two combined level language classes (Spanish 1/2, Spanish 3/4), assisted and attended business meetings with the program director, Dennis Bowling, and aided in overseeing each student's learning, work, and culture immersion experiences. I am thrilled to have gained work experience in this dynamic field while having a blast exploring Perú, and have inexpressible gratitude to my mentors and the program directors for this life-changing opportunity! • Spanish Language Instructor
      • Mar 2012 - May 2014

In this working and learning opportunity, I served as a graduate student instructor for Spanish language classes (levels 2 and 3) at Purdue University. While working with a team of instructors and our course coordinators, I utilized the common class structure and syllabus to individualize instruction to fit the needs of my students, Purdue University undergraduates. After having studied K-12 language pedagogy in my undergraduate career, I came into the job with a fully-stocked repertoire of language instruction and classroom management strategies and methods, which I used to modify my abilities to fit the needs of university students and to deliver first-class instruction. I was faced with many unforeseen challenges that come along with teaching and management positions, but was able to utilize my past experiences, drive, and creativity to capitalize on this opportunity for professional and personal growth. I am extremely thankful for the web of instructors, departmental staff, and coordinators that not only provided support and mentoring, but also for the confidence and trust they had in me as an educator and an individual! • Spanish Teacher; ESL Teacher; Translator
      • Jun 2013 - Jun 2013

In the class time on campus at Purdue University before departure for Colombia, I was hired to instruct a combined level (levels 1 and 4) Spanish language course to undergraduate students enrolled in the study abroad program "Cartagena 2013 Live, Work and Travel." Other than teaching, I was responsible for planning individualized lessons and creating and implementing assessment tools (quizzes, tests, projects, etc.) for this multi-level class. While interning at the University of Cartagena (Universidad de Cartagena), I translated and revised academic articles and administrative documents between Spanish and English concerning the university's efforts in the expansion of an international exchange program which facilitates cross-cultural research collaboration. I also co-taught an English as a Second Language (ESL) course to non-university students from the community. Another one of my responsibilities included meeting with current students at the University of Cartagena to talk about the in's and out's of pursuing undergraduate and graduate school degrees in the United States. One of my favorite things about these meetings was facilitating discussion to cultural differences in education and scholarship opportunities between the United States and Colombia. Living and working in Colombia afforded me the unique opportunity to experience the vibrant, rich, tropical "costeña" culture from the vantage points of both a teacher and a student. I am very grateful to my supervisor, mentor, and dear friend, Lisa Lambert-Snodgrass for this opportunity! Show less

    • Summer Maintenance Crew
      • May 2008 - Aug 2012

Working on the Summer Maintenance Crew has given me insight as to how a school corporation functions from the inside-out. This work involves general groundskeeping on all school town property, distribution of classroom materials, cleaning the buildings, resetting the locker combinations, document organization and filing, and intra-corporation mail delivery. After the School Town of Munster integrated the use of a personal laptop computer for each student, I helped update the operating systems and firmware, triage, sort, clean, and organize the laptop computers used by all teachers and students in 5th through 12th grade. • Salon Coordinator
      • Apr 2008 - Aug 2009

As the salon coordinator for both the spa and salon locations of Kut Above, I performed a wide range of necessary tasks to keep the business flowing with happy clients. I mintained a clean, organized store front and a well-managed schedule. The first contact clients had with the salon was usually through me in person, over the phone, or through email specials. This illustrated the importance of maintaining a professional and positive client-salon relationship at all times. Coherent, knowledgeable, polite communication, and a sharpened ability to multitask allowed me to perform the duties of this business which included the following: scheduling/rescheduling/confirming appointments, cleanliness maintenance, client relations, managing the cash drawer, creating and generating business documents, taking inventory on retail merchandise, helping with stylist/esthetician preparedness, and composing a relaxing and rejuvenating client experience.
