She joined our agency at pre-boutique size as the Head of Content, and was personally responsible for transforming a micro agency (that leveraged a predominantly freelance network) into arguably one of South Africa's most creatively-disruptive communications' businesses. She built and managed a team of 20, comprising creatives / designers, community managers and client service to offer a holistically well-rounded product - from strategy all the way through to 'viral' output. Her expert copywriting and journalism backgrounds equipped her to interrogate each and every brand challenge with the precision of a management consultant. Her obsession with sales funnel conversion rates ensured our solutions were always geared to support the business objectives of our clients, and her insights into monthly reporting were the rudder for continually improved communications and tactics to impact our brands' bottom lines. When she joined Retroviral, our bread and butter was social media community management. When we said farewell, she had imparted a 360 degree, integrated marketing blueprint on the entire business. The agency won record amounts of awards and accolades - both locally and internationally - under her stewardship, and because of her creative direction, we are firmly cemented in our positioning of being the creative shop that has made more brands 'go viral', globally, than any other agency in Africa. She is a person of substance with the highest ethics and proactively pursued clients with real purpose, committed to making a real, human difference to their target audience. One such client is Lil-Lets. She poured tears, sweat and pixels into the creation of a platform dedicated to destigmatising the taboos of menstruation by facilitating digital conversations for menstruators across a spectrum of life stages. Multi-award winning work, but it wasn't the metal and fame that gave her joy, it was the substance that is somewhat anomalous in the stereotypical marketing world of vanity metrics. A mentor, a friend, and someone so truly invested in her work is a rarity in this age of hyper consumerism and fickle job-jumping. Kathryn is the most loyal colleague I've ever had the pleasure of working with on this crazy entrepreneurial journey.
