I worked in the programmes team helping to prepare for the Commonwealth Business Forum – inviting 800 guests from across the Commonwealth to London to meet with Heads of Government for three days of panel discussions and roundtables. This involved researching, contacting and meeting with potential speakers, moderators and delegates; maintaining a database of speakers; attending meetings with sponsors and government bodies to plan the programme; and drafting session briefings. I have also helped run the company’s social media accounts, significantly increasing our Twitter following over my tenure, and taking the initiative to set up an ad campaign on Facebook and Instagram to encourage applications for our company’s export programme. Most recently I have been tasked with arranging visits with Heads of State, ministers and industry representatives for our chairman’s business trip, contacting the high commissioners and planning his itinerary. I have subsequently been responsible for organising a number of roundtable and panel discussions, planning the agendas and inviting and briefing speakers from business and government. My work has also involved conducting research on a number of diverse topics from palm oil production to blockchain, delivering briefings for speeches for senior colleagues. Show less

I was responsible for the daily Twitter newsfeed of stories related to the rice industry, as well as for editing the Daily Reports and Weekly Reports on changes in the global rice market in InDesign. My role also required me to write market reports of my own, describing important events or changes in the industry. I had some experience of price discovery, making calls with relevant contacts and assessing commodity prices. Over this 8 week course, I was taught the basics of HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, and JavaScript, and how to use the code-sharing platform GitHub. As part of the program, I was required to build a small website from scratch that employed all of the programming languages we had learnt over the course of the past 8 weeks.
