English Language Teaching Assistant

As a language assistant at Sant Cristofor Martir, I worked to develop and implement curriculums for both after school extra-curricular English language classes for 3rd-10th grades and for English language conversation classes 3rd-6th grades to supplement their traditional English classes. Projects and activities with the children included inventing new animals and describing these, English grammar Jeopardy, and an end of the year pirate themed scavenger hunt. In addition, I worked as an in-class aid for the English teacher in the preschool classes to strengthen the students' abilities for understanding the language and the native accent. Show less

English Language Assistant

Through my post as a language assistant at Jesús-María Alfonso X, I collaborated with the students' main English teachers to deepen the children's understanding of the content they were learning and to provide a model for pronunciation and grammar. I prepared and presented interactive, engaging English lessons and activities for children ages 4-12, teaching 21 different classes of 20-30 students, each for one hour per week. I also provided one-on-one after school tutoring for a variety of students, including those struggling in the subject, and those who love the subject and were seeking more practice. In addition to working with the children at the school, I provided advanced English lessons for a group of 2-5 teachers each week for one hour, working around their specific language needs, including pronunciation and advanced conversational skills. Foster Care Visitation Coach

As an intern at DSS, I not only supervised visitation between parents and their children in the foster care system, but I coached the parents during pre and post visits as well, based on the Marty Beyers approach to coached visitations. During pre visits, I would discuss with the parent(s) their feelings about the visit and their plans for the visit, if they had any. I would then supervise the visits, ensuring the safety of the child was put first at all times. During post visits, I would meet again with the parent(s) to discuss how they felt the visit went, focussing on what they did well and what they think they can improve on during the next visit. In addition to working with coached visitations, I supervised sibling visits, where parents were not present. In all visits, I worked with the clients towards their goals, as outlined by their service plans. I demonstrated my abilities to communicate through written word by way of progress notes entered into the Connections system (the online system used by New York State) and my abilities to communicate verbally with case managers and other service providers. Furthermore, I deepened my abilities for self-reflection and self-correction through processes with my supervisor. Show less

As an intern in the Respite Program at Family Services of Westchester, I supervised and participated with children ages 5-17 with Severe Emotional Disturbance (SED). Through weekend Respite and the after school Social Stars program, children are encouraged to work on their specific goals, as outlined in service plans, around increasing socialization and participation.
