Being accountable to the public while advocating the needs of students and the community is not only a primary function, but also my passion as a trustee. I have strong relationships with our Superintendents, principals and teachers and will continue my commitment to our School Division’s legacy of excellence. Having served on each of the Board Committees, I bring a combination of experience in child-centred public policy and financial expertise.

In 2016 I returned to the Provincial Public Service and currently work part-time in the role of Assistant to the Special Envoy for Military Affairs. As the daughter of a D-Day Veteran I was humbled to take the position. This administrative protocol position supports the work of the Provincial Envoy and allows me to liaise between/amongst the various levels and branches of the Canadian Armed Forces, and all three levels of Government (Federal/Provincial/Municipal). • 2016 - 2018

I was honoured to have my fellow trustees nominate me to run for the position of Regional Director with the Manitoba School Board Association. For 2 terms, (2016/17 and 2017/18) I had the privilege to represent the member Boards of Region 5. Sitting on the provincial executive I had the opportunity to enhance the work of locally elected school boards through leadership, advocacy and service, and to champion the cause of public education for all students in Manitoba. Healthy Child Manitoba represents a new way of working together across government departments and with the community to develop policies, programs and services. I am proud to have been one of the founding Directors.Led by the Healthy Child Committee of Cabinet, Healthy Child Manitoba bridges departments and governments and, together with the community, works to improve the well-being of Manitoba's children and youth. Though a cross-sectoral government structure, Healthy Child focuses on child-centred public policy through the integration of financial and community-based family supports. Best practices and models are adapted to Manitoba’s unique needs and programs and services are evaluated to find the most effective ways to achieve the best possible outcomes for Manitoba children, families and communities. In 1989 I returned to Manitoba to accept the position of Director, Arts and Cultural Industries Branch, Department of Culture, Heritage and Citizenship. The last cultural policy review in Manitoba was in 1990. Charged with the responsibility to implement the recommendations of the review, the branch put into effect those directives required to strengthen the financial capacity and sustainability of cultural organizations. The arts and the creative industries are one of Manitoba’s key economic drivers. Show less

  • Government of the Northwest Territories
    • Northwest Territories, Canada
    • Consumer and Corporate Affairs Officer (Department of Justice)
      • 1983 - 1985

The role of the Consumer Affairs officer is to administer consumer protection legislation for the government of the Northwest Territories. The statutes included are numerous, but include landlord and tenant disputes, and direct sales companies. The Consumer Affairs Officer hears, mediates and investigates consumer-related complaints: considering the rights and responsibilities of each party. Not all matters are covered by legislation. In those situations, the Officer provides an opportunity to resolve the problem through a voluntary process of dispute resolution/mediation. Show less

    • Provincial Adjudicator (Rent Review Hearing Board)
      • 1983 - 1985

The role of Provincial Adjudicator at the Hearings Board was to adjudicate appeal cases brought under the legislation. Adjudicators hear cases individually, or as a tribunal of 3 Members. The member controls the hearing, and must remain neutral. Adjudicators cannot provide legal advice or tell representatives how to present a case, rather the member asks questions to better understand the points of the appeal and filing of evidence. Once a hearing is concluded, the Member considers all the evidence and arguments, makes a decision and writes a decision explaining the result. Appeals to the adjudicated decision are possible only through the courts: and only on a matter of law. Show less

  • Yellowknife Family Counselling

    • Family Financial Counsellor
      • 1982 - 1983

Recognizing that a significant number of family disputes focused on family finances, the Yellowknife Family Counselling Agency approached me to establish the first Family Financial Counselling program, north of the 60th parallel. Through the Counselling services, budgeting, orderly payment of debts and bankruptcy applications were completed. The program was the first of its kind in Yellowknife and was quickly accepted within the community. To reach an even larger audience in the North, a weekly CBC spot was aired to those communities outside of the immediate reach of the program. Show less
