    • Undergraduate Research Assistant
      • Aug 2019 - Jun 2020

Working with an interdisciplinary UMaine faculty and student led team, part of the Senator George J. Mitchell Center for Sustainability Solutions, we are currently in the process of conducting research and meeting with the stakeholders involved in the production and diversion of food waste in Maine, evaluating solutions that could fit their specific needs, and proposing solutions that Maine, as a state, could use to help reduce generated food waste, lower business operating costs, and fight food insecurity in the 9th most insecure state in the nation. My team worked with Maine’s major food business stakeholders including retailers, distributors, farmers, manufacturers, hospitality, hospitals, schools, Congresswoman Pingree’s office, and more to identify the food waste solutions that would be most appropriate for Maine. As of June 2020, we had identified our six food waste solutions, reviewed them in a series of stakeholder presentations, and finalized a report on our findings. I ended my engagement with the project, however the project is still moving forward beginning implementation next steps – additional state government presentation sessions, external private/public funding proposals and meetings, and a pilot project design and launch.
