Executive Advisor to Homes4WoundedHeroes (H4WH) Program
-
Jan 2010 - Sep 2023
Homes4WoundedHeroes awards mortgage-free homes to combat wounded veterans and Gold Star spouses. What began as an idea in 2010, the template rapidly took shape to become what is today, a nationally-recognized, highly successful, home and mentoring program. Having spent 2 decades in the mortgage banking industry by 2010, I’d witnessed multiple financial crises, widespread loan defaults & human hardship. It became obvious that reliable housing was the No. 1 element that could provide stability to family life. I knew what it would take to achieve recovery: outside-the-box, long-term, sustainable solutions. That notion led to the founding of Homes4Wounded Heroes. Collaborating with my banking network and the Foundation, I led a team that architected the program. To date, we have supplied over 800 homes. The 3-year mentoring program has supported the veterans and Gold Stars in their efforts to reduce personal debt that averages $32K per family, improve their credit scores, learn how to develop and adhere to a budget, manage home repairs and pay their bills on time. Short and long-term goals are developed that build independence and confidence. Show less

Vice President - Mortgage Servicing
-
1982 - 1996
First Federal S&L Association of Rochester was selected as a “Phoenix” to support regulators in their efforts to cope with the savings and loan crisis. As a result, the bank became a local and national leading financial institution, leading national mortgage servicing policy development and processes. Improving processes and eliminating inefficiencies from day one, I was eager to take on challenges. My skills for observation & analysis were called upon often, as company leadership requested my input on high-level concepts and nuanced situations that required creative problem-solving. I developed a team-focused leadership style, eventually overseeing more than 150 staff. Requiring a strong sense of ethics, I led teams that were responsible for accounting, call centers, default operations, real estate owned, loss mitigation, acquisitions, technology and loan loss reserve methodology.
