Long Term Substitute Teacher

Behavior based program which uses reward system. Long term substitute teacher for three weeks for a class of 5 to 8 year old children with Autism. Lead all instruction, developed new projects for fine motor development, assisted the students in creating a painting to promote Autism Awareness in the school, communicated with parents, added gym time for gross motor development, modified a student’s assignment on the spot when it was too simple, and added safety precautions and cleanliness to the room. Next, was in both Autism Spectrum and EBICS classrooms for six weeks. Students were in elementary school with varying abilities. Took data, taught IEP goals, managed behavior, transitioned students from activities inside and outside classroom, created art projects and taught to kids, taught group lessons, and interacted with parents. Currently in high school ASP classroom. Taught lessons, managed behaviors, took data, taught IEP goals, went out on Cite Based Instruction trips, supervised students on CBI, accompanied students to and from buses and the cafeteria, adjusted lessons and created art projects, and created new activities for down time.

Serving as the Personal Assistant to a young lady with a physical disability. Assisted her with transportation around the building; taking notes and completing assignments in class; organizing materials; advocating for her when needed; and occasionally assisting with toilet needs. Next position was that of Teacher's Assistant. Worked in a self-contained classroom for students with intellectual and emotional disabilities. Taught the class whenever the teacher was absent, which was often during the beginning of the year due to Jury Duty. Graded papers; worked one-on-one with students who were having difficulty; played math games with students; created and taught kinesthetic lessons on science; organized trips to the general education science lab to look at pond water under microscopes; and managed difficult behaviors. Lastly, was proud to hold the position of Special Education Teacher for three years. A case manager for 10 students with Learning Disabilities; Asperger's syndrome; ADHD; and Tourette's syndrome. Also an English inclusion teacher for grades 9, 10, and 12.
