The World Scholars Program is an undergraduate program allowing me to study Nutrition and Dietetics and Public Health through a global lens. This program gives me intercultural skills needed to work abroad in public health in the future in our highly interconnected world. Some of the experiences that I have had so far include: - Studied at the University of Auckland in Auckland, New Zealand for the fall semester of my freshman year. - Participated in the American Host Partner Program to get to know members of the international community at the University, and be a person they could lean on sophomore year. - Studied with DIS Study Abroad Copenhagen in Denmark for the fall semester of my junior year. - In Year 4 of the program, I will present about my globally focused experiences, synthesized with an academic area of interest at the World Scholars Symposium in the spring semester. • DelaWorld Leader in the World Scholars Program
      • May 2020 - May 2021

As a DelaWorld Leader, I am a resource for other fellow World Scholars to assist them in our journey in this program. I am responsible for acting as a mentor for the first year World Scholars as they learn what it means to not only be a student at the University of Delaware, but also a World Scholar. Some of my roles include leading group activities or discussions, answering student's questions, connecting students with each other, and informing students on upcoming events available to them.

    • American Host Partner Program
      • Sep 2020 - Nov 2020

As an American Host in the program, I have been paired with a University of Delaware's ELI English language learner. This program has given me the opportunity to engage in cross-cultural dialogue and establish friendships with international students participating in the English Language Institute's English Programs.

In my fall semester junior year, I studied with DIS - Study Abroad Copenhagen for four months. My core course and focus of my time in Copenhagen was Public Health. I took courses in Comparing Healthcare systems between the USA and DK, Pregnancy Birth and Infancy in Denmark, Epidemiology a Danish Case, and Anthropology of Food. I lived in a Kollegium just outside of Copenhagen in Frederiksberg, and established lifelong connections with my flatmates from Europe and Scandinavia. While in Denmark, I learned so much about the Danish people, their culture, and their healthcare system. During my time abroad, I was able to learn both inside and outside of the classroom visiting GPs and other health municipalities in Denmark. My class also studied in other Danish cities outside of Copenhagen including Vejle, Horsens, and Aarhus. Another class trip was taken to both Rovaniemi, Finland and Helsinki, Finland to further compare the US and Danish healthcare systems to that of Finland. In addition to these experiences, I was also able to travel to Amsterdam, Sweden, Northern Ireland, and Scotland during my time in Europe. Show less

Ulster Project Delaware (UPD) is a cross-community project that fosters peace and leadership between teens from Northern Ireland and Delaware. UPD annually promotes tolerance, reconciliation, and understanding between opposing groups through the month of July. In July 2017, I participated in Ulster Project Delaware host 3 Irish teens and forming many other close bonds with other teens from Banbridge, Northern Ireland. I was able to further these bonds when I traveled to Banbridge in July of 2018 reconnecting with other participants. This experience has given me a passion for travel and many lifelong connections. Following my experience participating in the exchange, I served as a Youth Board Member for the project. As a Youth Board Member, I helped make decisions and prepare future participants for their experience in the project. Show less
