  I teach daily living, social and academic skills to four groups of five mentally retarded adults with low functioning autism, lack of speech or atypical speech patterns. The ultimate goal of the boarding school’s program is to foster independence and understanding, creating a safe and supportive environment. TEACCH structured work system, tailored to individual needs, is applied on the daily schedule for all the students. I use PECS communication therapy to a number of them, as well as “Social Stories” to improve underdeveloped social skills of adults and adolescents with higher mental abilities than the average student. Educational software programs serve as useful learning tools in the classroom. Furthermore, I compose a six month cognitive -behavioral assessment of each student and propose educational material, alternative educational activities and socialization programs. Finally, under the supervision of the school’s Psychologist and Scientific Advisor and in cooperation with my colleagues, I : 1) prepare and review individualized educational programs, 2) organize and modify strategies and interventions related to the behavioral, emotional difficulties of our students.
