During an internship at Warring Elementary school as a teacher's aide, I got to learn many skills and gain knowledge that pertain to Human Resource Management. I helped assist 20 second grade students which involved psychology, administrative and customer/personal service knowledge. It was important for me to have direct communication with my supervisor if any problems occurred and give updates on the student's progress for record keeping. This experience required me to help keep records of the students organized by graded assignments, tests, and participation. When observing the students and noticed some weren't understanding material, I would work with individual pupils or put them into groups to assist them with class assignments or activities. Interning for the Poughkeepsie City School District provided me with experience on how to maintain constructive and cooperative relationships with others due to collaborating on ideas for educational activities and how to enforce school rules. I interned at Club COOL(Community Outreach & Opportunities for Learning) which is a respite program for young children and adolescents ages 6-21 diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and/or a developmental or intellectual disability. The program included around 20 children and took place Monday through Friday. I would help coordinate the work and activities in order for the children to learn self-care, money and time management, safety and social skills. This would require communication with my supervisors to understand each child's skill set and individualized plan. Show less
