Kate Tebbett is a state registered physiotherapist with a Bachelor of Science honours degree from the University of the West of England. She is Bobath trained and is Lead Physiotherapist for a Scope college working with young people (19-25years) with complex neurodisability. Kate has 20 years’ experience of assessing and treating children and young adults with a variety of severe and complex neurodisabilities and has expertise in postural management, hydrotherapy, provision of therapy equipment as well as spasticity management and hands-on therapy. She regularly runs a Botulinum Toxin Clinic alongside a Neurology Consultant and a monthly orthotic clinic with the orthotist. Kate is a clinical educator and acts as mentor to physiotherapy students. She also provides regular training to support staff on the physical management of neurodisability, including postural management and hydrotherapy. Kate has worked closely with individuals affected by complex disability and their families for many years, both as a physiotherapist and also as a family support worker with Cumbria Cerebral Palsy. This has provided a thorough understanding of the impact of physical disability on the individual and their whole family. Kate now works closely with a team of occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and technicians and has an understanding of the possible IT solutions available that can enable an individual to have the greatest level of independence in their life. During assessment Kate considers how even minimal control of movement can be developed and used to access communication and environmental controls. Kate is a member of the Medico Legal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MLACP)and prepares medico-legal reports to assist the Court in calculating the quantum of damages in respect of physiotherapy needs for children and adults with severe and complex neurological disabilities. As Lead Physiotherapist at Beaumont College I manage the physiotherapy team as well as holding my own caseload of students with complex physical and learning difficulties. Working closely with the OT's we manage the postural needs of this group of complex students. As a team we are involved in the training of all other staff - support staff and education staff who work with the students to ensure their physical needs are met throughout the day. I also run joint clinics with the local orthotic service and also a botox clinic with a Neuro-consultant from the local rehabilitation centre. Show less
