Administrative and fiscal oversight of JCMU’s U.S. administrative office and campus in Japan. Maintain liaison with Executive Committee, officials from the Shiga Prefectural government and representatives from the fifteen public Michigan universities to facilitate strategic planning and to appraise these stakeholders on fiscal, administrative, academic, personnel, public relations and student life matters. Develop and maintain links with educational, governmental, and business entities, professional associations and alumni in the U.S. and Japan to obtain support and collaboration for JCMU programs.Proactively monitor changing needs of students, partnering institutions and other stakeholders though student evaluations, consultation with the Executive Committee, university representatives and other key constituents from the higher education, government and business sectors and professional associations. Design and modify study abroad programs and initiatives to meet the shifting educational needs of students, partners and external stakeholders. For example, developing programs specific to STEM students, creating career-focused internship opportunities, and taking measures to ensure accessibility to students, including community college and first generation students, students with disabilities, minority students and students from all socioeconomic backgrounds.Management of existing and development of new exchange agreements and partnerships including U.S. and Japanese higher education institutions. Interact with institutions, students, parents and public to advise, answer questions and resolve problems. Manage administration of ongoing grants and fundraising activities and proactively seek new opportunities in these areas. Collaborate with Michigan State University (MSU), JCMU partner institutions and JCMU staff to implement policies and procedures relating to safety, risk management, liability, and crisis management.

The Japan Center for Michigan Universities (JCMU) study abroad program is a product of the strong sister-state relationship between the State of Michigan and Shiga Prefecture. It is located on the shore of Lake Biwa in the City of Hikone, Shiga Prefecture, Japan. Our programs are dedicated to building relationships between Japanese, Americans, and other nationalities through active learning and participation in language, culture, family life and society. JCMU is administered by Michigan State University.
