As the Enhance Fitness instructor at SnoValley Senior Center, I've had the pleasure of working with Kate for a decade. She is an exuberant and thoughtful leader who has energized our Senior Center. She has a gift for looking at a challenge from all angles to problem solve, engaging others in the process and inspiring innovation. I'd have to say her real strength though is compassion. She truly connects with those she serves and this is the key to her successful outcomes.

From the events she's planned, to the events that she'll find a way to conjure from a thin budget, Kate works tirelessly for the seniors at the Sno-Valley Senior Center. They adore her and appreciate the effort she puts into enriching their lives. When she calls me volunteering, I can't say no.

Developed and managed a case management, social services outreach program to support Elders from Canada to California and all States in between. This program was able to significantly improve the income and support for an underserved population in order for them to live independently and in their own homes. Developed and managed a medical program to provide eye care, hearing aides and dental care to Tribal Elders. Created and implemented a culturally appropriate home care system for fragile Tribal Elders. Developed a day trip program that offers over 100 field trips a year. My clients have hiked to Snoqualmie falls, found the best hamburger in Western Washington, made their own chocolates, steamed around Mount Rainer on a train, watched a caber being tossed, and been awed by the majesty of 1,000 snow geese flying over their heads and so much more. Developed in house programs to promote wellness. From aerobics to weight lifting, my clients are getting stronger and feeling better. If they overdo I also offer, massage, acupressure, acupuncture and reflexology to get them back in the game. Developed programs to manage the challenges of aging. It can be as simple as offering proper eyeglass adjustment and cleaning or as complex as managing chronic conditions. I offer services that allow each client to be the best they can be. I manage a large variety of vendors and program providers under challenging constraints. All programs and services offered at the Sno-Valley Senior Center are revenue neutral; fees must cover all costs, including instructor salaries and supplies. Brought the Center into the modern age. I worked with volunteers and donors to add a computer lab, update our member database, develop a website and upgraded our hardscape.Changed the culture of the Sno-Valley Senior Center from a center divided to a center united. We are known as the friendliest Senior Center around. "Everyone who comes through the door makes a new friend" says member Jackie Goeke" Show less
