Mirko Mandic
For about a year, Kate and I worked closely on Amazon Go to introduce the novel Just Walk Out Shopping experience to the world. Kate was the only UX Researcher on the team, with a wide variety of accountabilities, ranging from defining the "ideal" customer journey to measuring the success of our designs in actualizing that journey. Her work stretched across all aspects of the customer and associate experience. Kate's systemic outlook helped ensure that we shipped a holistic experience at the intersection of Industrial Design, Store Design, and Digital Design. Her role required Kate to strike a fine balance between projecting a unique point of view on one hand and accounting for a multitude of stakeholder voices on the other and Kate did so humbly and empathetically.

Kate is an excellent design leader. She is able to take complex problems and lead a team in designing both near-term tactical solutions and a long-term strategic direction. I've also been very impressed with how quickly she can grow a team both by upleveling the team's skillset and through skillful hiring. While I worked at Walmart, Kate led teams that executed on some of our highest priorities, and there was never any doubt that the work would be done quickly and well.
