As a Tour Guide, I collaborated closely with the directors of admissions to help mold Wooster's future classes. This included leading individualized and group tours around the College of Wooster campus; assisting with professor candidate tours for both the Anthropology and Spanish departments; corresponding with prospective students through postcard writing, phone calls, and emails; participating in student panels for prospective students and families. I also incorporated my music, by playing background music at parent receptions and coordinating our bluegrass group to perform during spring visit programs. Show less

    • Staff Member at Vashon Kids
      • Jun 2015 - Aug 2019

My work with Vashon Kids has been a wonderful way for me to stay connected with my home community. Vashon Kids is a non-profit child care service that provides affordable full-time care for 5-12-year-old kids. As a staff member, I mentor and supervise children, engaging them in creative play, teamwork, and problem-solving. I also incorporate my musical background in songwriting projects that have been performed at our local parade. My time at Vashon Kids has allowed me to understand more of the demographics in my community, by working with families of all different financial, racial/ethnic, and educational backgrounds. Through strong leadership, a progressive staff culture, and close long-term relationships with families, I have seen how child care can play an immense role in the development of a stronger, more integrated community. • Jun 2018 - Aug 2018

Received a College of Wooster APEX Fellowship to spend two months in the Northwestern Highlands of Guatemala, acting as a first-time intern for the NGO Hands For Peacemaking Foundation (HFPF). This fellowship provided a unique opportunity for me to develop a Spanish immersive internship that drew upon my anthropology major while allowing me to further develop my writing and communication skills. A couple of my main internship responsibilities included: - Conducting follow-up interviews with community leaders and individuals who HFPF had previously worked with to better help the organization understand how to meet different communities' needs - Writing stories about the interviewees for the HFPF newsletter and website https://www.handsforpeacemaking.org/ - Providing English assistance in the classroom for the HFPF Guatemalan staff - Conducting follow-through presentations to the US HFPF donors and Wooster students about my internship experience Show less
