Experience

    • Study Liason
      • Jun 2023 - Present

The Durbar Mahila Samanwaya Committee (The Unstoppable Women’s Collective Committee) promotes the safety, health, identity, and well-being of SWs in India. The Sonagachi project originally started in 1992 in the Red Light District to promote safe sex practice, increasing condom use by over 70% and significantly increasing HIV testing and awareness. Now, Durbar has expanded and works on fostering a collective identity for SWs to gain recognition as legitimate work while protecting minors and those who were trafficked. They have also implemented programs to support the children of SWs, and continue to advocate for the governmental distribution of sexual health medications such as PrEP. I am helping draft the paper on health promotions and COVID-19 prevention among SWs in India during the pandemic. Some of my responsibilities include participating in qualitative research training sessions, organization of qualitative codes, extensive literature review, as well as writing and editing the research papers.
