There is no one I would recommend more highly when it comes to engaging with people and communities with dignity, creativity and in mana-enhancing ways. Kataraina is a fantastic project lead, teacher, orator and designer. She will bring an enormous amount to your project and community, as well as being a delight to work with.

I had the privilege of working with Kataraina for 2.5 years at Innovation Unit (previously innovate change), where we worked on social innovation projects together predominantly across the education and health sectors. Kataraina is mana wahine in many ways, but above all, she is mana wahine her constant building of other’s mana motuhake. She embodies manaakitanga in her everyday interactions with her team, project partners, stakeholders and the communities she serves. She is constantly supporting, building up, and growing the people around her. Kat is highly skilled at weaving together communities, ideas and worlds. She is a natural connector, and makes diverse groups feel welcomed and at ease. She excels in gently coaching others in their journey to connect with Te Ao Māori, and peeling back the layers of meaning over time in safe, accessible, mana-enhancing ways. Kataraina is a strong advocate for Māori and other minority groups, and her commitment to her whānau, her marae, her whenua, and the tangata whenua of Aotearoa is admirable. Lastly, Kat is a yes-woman. She can see the positive in every person and situation, and brings her deep knowledge of Te Ao Māori and creative problem solving to everything she does. I can say without a doubt that Kat’s influence has changed my life, and she will bring incredible skill and depth to any project, team or organisation she leads in the future. A relationship with Kat is a life-long one.

Auckland Sexual Health service is a service that specialises and are experts in the diagnoses and treatment of Sexual Transmitted Infections. I currently coordinate our Education Team. The Education Unit will, in a client fousses, culturally appropriate, and diversity celebratory manner, proffesionally assist others to value their sexuality, and express it in a positive and healthy way. We achieve this by running the PSSP (Peer Sexuality Support Programme) a peer education based programme currently being run in 25 secondary schools in the greater Auckland region. We also run a significant amount of Health Promotion stalls at major events in Auckland including- Big Day Out, Big Gay Out, Erotica etc. We can also provide any community education sessions to those who request us.
