Master Thesis Project

Sep 2016 - Sep 2017
Developed an algorithm that automatically generates the gripper design of a robotic arm. It was developed in such a way that; a non-expert user of CAD could successfully use the tool and obtain the gripper design. The project also included experimental analysis of the design by means of rapid prototyping. The project began with a systematic study of present robot technology and finding innovative ways to find a solution. Scientific methods were employed in automated CAD, coupled with intuitive solutions to achieve the set goal. The algorithm developed is in active use at ABB. The tools used were Catia V5 and Excel VBA with Markforged 3D printers to verify the design. Material modeling and FE Analysis of a soft gripper for a robotic arm as a solution for better safety and increased precision. The various design parameters of the gripper and how these parameters affect the overall function of the gripper were analyzed. The project was carried out by a team in which I was responsible for the material modeling and FE analysis of the gripper. Ansys was used to study the effect of design parameters and materials on the gripper and achieved the desired result. Show less
