I had the pleasure of working under the tutelage of Mr. Karl Payne, a person who is more a mentor than a boss at Symbotic, while he held the position of Senior Business Unit Leader in the company supporting the Target distribution center. Mr. Karl Payne is one of those rare managers and a business leader who also naturally serves as an inspiring mentor for the whole staff/team. With his sensibility and years’ worth of experience as a business leader, Mr. Payne exhibits a strong interpersonal skills and a unique capacity for empathy and choosing the right person to place in a job. These qualities most notably translate in his ability to motivate and build a team to care about the project and be invested in the project’s success. Mr. Payne is the go-to person for conflict resolution and problem solving; when problems break out in different subsystems from different organizations or departments, he steps in to diffuse tension and induce compromise. He looks out for his team but is not one to draw attention to himself deliberately – his work does that for him. Mr. Payne’s positive attitude and the respect others feel toward him are palpable. I recommend Mr. Payne highly as I know that he will never let anyone down.
