I was contracted to replace their internal LOB systems with an API-first SaaS platform that would facilitate their growth/M&A plan. I was responsible for every layer of the project: liaison with GM/directors, requirements capture, cloud infrastructure, coding, DevOps/CI, data migration, end-user training, deployment and support. I also mentored another contractor working on a connected project. • Worked with senior management team to ensure end result would align with shop-floor level… Show more I was contracted to replace their internal LOB systems with an API-first SaaS platform that would facilitate their growth/M&A plan. I also mentored another contractor working on a connected project. • Worked with senior management team to ensure end result would align with shop-floor level requirements while supporting the board strategic vision. • Rolled out “Major Tom” across the business in a week of staged deployments and data migrations with zero interruption to the business and negligible post-live teething issues. • Coded a web frontend (React/Redux/Saga/Styled Components/etc) for sales, operations and finance staff. This 100+ screen portal included a drag-and-drop flight manifesting screen, wallboard displays, a WYSIWYG email designer, capacity scheduling, user-personalised dashboard and more. • Setup a TDD/CI workflow that pushed versioned and tested docker containers into a cloud repository for one-line deployment/rollback. • Designed and wrote the ~20 microservices that comprise the backend using SOLID, DRY and FP techniques. Most were RESTful/Stateless, while some used async messaging for scale out. • Configured Azure Cosmos, SQL, search, LBs/gateways services as well as vanilla VMs to achieve zero single points of failure, real-time monitoring/alerting and backup/DR provision. • Created iOS React-Native Tablet Apps for (a) customer check-in and (b) instructors and pilots. • Liaising with their accountancy firm, I integrated their complex two company structure/bespoke VAT arrangement from price list system, to PDF receipt production, to Xero accounting package. This included oversight of suppliers and partner organisations as well as out-reach to customers whenever technical input was required or beneficial. I was responsible for managing our development effort undertaken in the UK, Poland and the US, via our contractor or supplier arrangements. Unfortunately Zonr was unable to convert prospects into sales quickly enough and we opted to wind up the business with a small loss (but all suppliers paid in full). • Selected and negotiated with hardware providers for the manufacture of bespoke circuit boards as well as mechanical and industrial design work so as to achieve our desired feature set and bill of materials. • Specified the firmware requirements for the sensors, working with the manufacturers’ technical personnel throughout the development process, specifying UAT, leading to a functional prototype. • Led customer workshops and trade shows, to foster interest and engagement within the social housing community, and prepared pilot deployment schemes. • Wrote a C# .NET mono application for the Raspberry PI that read data coming from the sensors (via our GPIO connected module), and sent it in batches via GSM or WiFi to a server. As a remote device, potentially installed in millions of homes, I also created a boot-loader and auto-update mechanism. • Created a NodeJS backend and typescript frontend for analysing the sensor results. Following the sale of 1st Touch Ltd I decided to use some of the proceeds to spend time with my children while they’re still young. Best decision I ever made! I did some volunteer work (YE), provided advice to local tech startups and developed some prototypes; portions of that work was used in ZONR. Later I took responsibility for the implementations, building relationships with 1st Touch's largest clients. Increasingly I worked within pre-sales to drive product adoption. Aareon AG acquired us in July 2012 and I was responsible for all technical enquiries during that process. • Led the technical effort from build to pre-sales that established 1st Touch as the leading mobile platform in our industry, winning 90% of (responded to) tenders in 2011. • Worked extensively with prospective acquirers during their due diligence to facilitate the company sale. Then represented 1st Touch at international board meetings during the on-boarding process. • Influenced partner organisations to integrate with 1st Touch so as to open up the market to us. • Designed a microservices based architecture using .NET web/soap services and a web-based WYSIWYG editor for designing and publishing forms-based apps onto smartphones. • Hired a multi-disciplinary development team, installing an Agile development methodology, to enable consistent repeatable development cycles. • Spear-headed early implementations to establish a repeatable, profitable, process. • Established a more illuminating recruitment process that led to higher quality hires. • Nurtured individuals to senior developer, supervisor and ultimately to manager status as part of my long term succession planning. • Retired the legacy product, migrating customers gradually onto our modern Windows Mobile replacement, while providing support across versions. Then similarly planned for the transition to our 3rd gen platform for Android/iOS (and even Blackberry/Windows Phone). .NET C# ASP.NET MSSQLServer Objective-C AWS OOP AGILE Show less Initially hired as Development Manager, I was responsible for the technical direction of the business building our mobile platform aimed at the social housing industry. This product encompassed every major facet of the companies operation and delivered transformational improvements in efficiency. In 2005 I was awarded responsibility for all IT provision, including business continuity planning, network administration and service desk functions. • Led the team that created “SAMI”. A CRM with automated document production and mortgage and insurance underwriting capabilities so that the whole company was on one platform. • Implemented integrated credit checking and document production, reducing the end-to-end sales process from 60 to 30 minutes, directly supporting the company’s rapid growth from 0.5M to 2M revenue without having to scale staff numbers linearly. • Guided the team to make extensive product changes in time for “M-day” when the FSA took regulatory control of our industry and asserted new operational and technical requirements. • I implemented a SCRUM methodology so as to mature from crunch-time to sustainable development sprints. • I developed a field-rep offline version of the product that ran on laptops (pre-mobile era). • I designed an automated mortgage selection product that allowed lending criteria to be inputted as code snippets and then ensured customers were being offered the best deal. This pre-dates the comparison sites that are common today. • I established a service desk function, styled on ITIL, so as to ensure more consistent and measurable day-to-day IT support.
