Karla is an outstanding photographer, producer, and editor. She does it all! She is passionate about her work and an advocate for great design. I had the privilege of managing Karla and overseeing her work at BabyCenter. She turned assets around quickly, consistently offered up solutions, and approached her work with a growth mindset. She was a key driver in growing BabyCenter's photography program and online presence. I learned so much from her during our time together, and I would be quick to work with her again.

Karla joined the marketing team in 2017 and for the 4 years I worked with her, I came to learn that Karla was a very special find. Technically savvy behind the camera and incredibly efficient behind the MAC , Karla was the perfect blend of photographer, stylist and creative visionary. Shamefully, I knew one day she would outgrow us and move onto greater things - as she did. Karla is a passionate photographer with creative perspective and detailed aesthetics. She was the perfect addition to a team of creative collaborators and was always willing to support her other team members, to meet deadlines. Skilled in backend ecommerce and digital marketing; her contributions extended beyond photography. She works efficiently and managed her deliverables independently. She understands brand relevance and more importantly, how to build on brand standards . Well suited for product photography, she excelled at styling and shooting all the digital marketing assets for the organization and directed mostly all those marketing shoots. She’s professionally-casual and eager to exceed business goals and expectations. She is comfortable interacting with all levels of management. She is organized, managed budgets and a great team player. Karla will be an incredible addition to any organization, and I know bright things are coming in her career future.

I oversaw BabyCenter's day-to-day photography team operations by providing direction, guidance, and structure to the team. I managed the photography vendor relationships, budget projections, contracts, agency accounts, and freelancers. I brought the success of BabyCenter’s photoshoots from pre-production to final output by casting, scouting locations, and creative direction. I also established an in-house photography studio, focused on shooting BabyCenter-exclusive editorial, social, and sponsored content images.I continuously assessed how imagery is used throughout BabyCenter on a recurring basis through leading initiatives to refresh areas of the site and app that need to evolve and change. I worked closely with the Brand, UX & Product, Email, Social, and Edit teams to align and ensure that photography is a key consideration in all their project objectives. I also designed BabyCenter’s organic social content — from Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, even tiktoks! I increased productivity by templatizing my designs, giving the Social and international teams independence on updating and adding their own content. Notable accomplishments:• Built on and streamlined the metadata, keywording processes, and best practices within BabyCenter’s cost-free internal Image Management system. Asset management increased productivity by giving BabyCenter’s editors the ability to search within the library for handpicked and vetted imagery for their articles• Owned the diversity initiative in photography by growing BabyCenter-exclusive photography that is reflective of BabyCenter’s real audience by casting actual BabyCenter users in photoshoots• Spearheaded and strategized adding photo credits to over 6,000 hero images across BabyCenter’s global websites and apps Show less

I partnered with the e-commerce and buyer teams to integrate and coordinate the schedule and flow of assortments of products that entered the photo studio and maintained calendars and trackers for overall departmental tracking of sample arrivals, shoot scheduling, and image availability. I held significant responsibility in the functionality and productivity in the photo studio, and most importantly, in elevating multiple brands’ image and voice. Notable accomplishments: • Owned and effectively streamlined tracking systems for sample management and shoot scheduling increasing productivity in Schurman Retail Group’s photo studio exponentially • Held significant responsibility in elevating multiple brands’ imagery and voice through marketing and lifestyle photography, boosting e-commerce growth by 50-100% YoY Show less
