Bio
Michelle Van Kolck
Karl De Wet is no ordinary BIM leader. In my view, he is too modest about what he brings to the table in any conversation, situation or project. He brings so much more to a team than just drafting skills and many years of valuable industry experience. He has always been passionate about his vision of executing BIM as effectively, responsibly and pro-actively as possible. Whenever I am brainstorming with Karl we always seem to veer back to the key essentials in communications and collaboration that are missing in our industry. Karl brings that desire to make things as easy and workable as possible to every conversation. He is intensely optimistic about the future of BIM and about developing systems that facilitate BIM efficiencies for clients, builders, engineers and I always admire him for that. I would recommend Karl on any project, anywhere in the world, without hesitation. Why? Because Karl is one of those guys who will find a way, who will find solutions, and who will learn what he needs to in order to master getting the job done as cost effectively and efficiently as possible. Karl is one of the few industry leaders (that I know personally) who has both the curiosity and skills to develop long-term, sustainable BIM and communication based system solutions. I have seen how ego‘s and narrow discipline-specific perspectives can often get in the way in the way of true BIM project collaboration in our industry, but Karl manages to side step these social and logistical hurdles well. He naturally finds clever ways to facilitate improved project communication across all disciplines and inspires project teams to foster a project-centric focus. Our industry would be so much better off if we could duplicate Karl’s commitment, accountability and problem solving agility.
