I am currently employed as a CAD technician within a small/medium sized bespoke joinery manufacturers although due to my adaptability and the company needs I have a very wide range of responsibilities. My primary duties are to produce detailed manufacture drawings for a variety of projects such as small bar refurbishments through to prestigious blue chip programs such as the vast joinery package we have nearly completed for the new extension of the Tate Modern in London.Aside from my main duties I am required to manage projects, organise labour, purchase goods and materials, organise deliveries to site, enhance the company’s policies and procedures as well as report on project progress during weekly production meetings.Although I started with the company as a CAD Technician, my role progressed quickly to more of an assistant to the Production Manager which has been a fantastic experience and has reaffirmed my desire to progress into management.

Initially I took up a position as a Bench Hand manufacturing a variety of internal and external joinery components for companies across a wide range of sectors. In August 2014 I was offered the chance to put my learned skills at HNC level to use by taking on the role of planner for the bespoke joinery arm of the company. As the workshop planner I am responsible for producing technical drawings for the workshop to manufacture the joinery elements required to deliver a complete project, this involves liaising with clients, designers and site management, reading and interpreting architect’s drawings and delivering this information to our team of Bench Hand joiners.Along with drawings and information I am required to place orders for materials and hardware in time for the end product to be completed in accordance with the schedule of works and any other assistance required by the workshop manager.

My main duties were the fabrication and fitting of all aspects of shopfitting for both commercial and domestic projects. Within a short time at the company I was trusted to prepare work for others by creating cutting lists from detailed drawings and selecting the appropriate materials. Further to this it became my job to maintain and calibrate all the workshop machines, order and change parts, manage deliveries, supervise trainees and deliver first aid. Taking on more responsibilities helped me to realize my potential as a senior member of staff. My competence in dealing with quantities, materials, costs, time scales and client briefs was what lead me to take up evening college classes and attend workshops to develop my skills in this area.
