My research focused on the characterisation of relevant cells population which are able to contribute to the repair process and understanding how these cells can be used as part of novel interventions and therapy for the clinic. My PhD was entitled “Biomarkers and new therapeutic approaches targeting cancer stem cells in hepatocellular carcinoma” supervised by Dr Anne Corlu in Inserm U991 “Liver, metabolism and cancer” laboratory. In my thesis, we identified molecular effectors involved in the acquisition and maintenance of stem cells features using transcriptomic analysis and 3D models of liver cancer stem cells. We showed that cancer stem cells develop mechanisms that modulate inflammatory response, redox homeostasis and metabolic functions that contribute to chemoresistance. We also demonstrated that restoration of mitochondrial activity in combination with chemotherapy could represent a useful therapeutic approach to target cancer stem cells. In another work, we previously shown that inflammatory environment promoted the retrodifferentiation of hepatocytes into progenitors cells using transcriptomic analysis. All my research experiences give me a strong background in stem cells, transcriptomics and tumor biology. Show less
