    • iGEM 2021 Participant - Research Project PHEAST
      • Feb 2021 - Nov 2021

"The iGEM competition gives students the opportunity to push the boundaries of synthetic biology by tackling everyday issues facing the world." -iGEM Foundation Participating in the biggest international synthetic biology competition together with a team of 14 engineering students has been a huge experience, accelerating the acquisition of hard skills and personal development. I was part of DTU iGEM 2021 team. Our project PHEAST aimed to build a methanotrophic yeast cell factory for methane utilisation for a product of interest. Our work contributed to the scientific community with an easy and fast genomic integration in the industrial relevant yeast Komagataella phaffii with a state-of-the-art CRISPR based toolbox. I primarily worked in the lab doing molecular cloning. Furthermore, I was part of the planning and manuscript writing of the pitch video for science communication and an integral part of Human practices concerning Politics and Ethics to facilitate a debate on the use of GMOs and reflect upon the sustainability and impact of the project on the society.
