Research: I am assessing the potential of the geologic process of stream capture to act as a mechanism of dispersal and vicariance for freshwater species. This research is focused in the southeastern United States. I am also interested in how epigenetic markers such as DNA methylation may influence phenotypic diversity and species diversity in fishes. I therefore am investigating the evolution of DNA methyltransferase genes within fishes by examining the sequence and function of these genes. Teaching: I have taught five sections of Introductory Genetics and three sections of Introductory Evolution (~40 students per section). Show less
