Bio
Susan Fitzell✦Neurodiversity Speaker
I have had the fortune to work with Karen Wasilenko while providing professional development for her district, more specifically Pownal elementary school and Bennington elementary school. Over the past 20 years I have worked with hundreds of professionals as a consultant providing professional development to their school or district. Karen stood out in the top 5% of professionals with whom I have collaborated because of her professionalism, organizational skills, and ability to deliver professional development on a topic that is typically very challenging. Karen's calm, professional, measured approach to working with staff and colleagues is commendable. She clearly has strong collaboration skills and is an advocate for much-needed professional development in her district. The key here is that, even when professional development is difficult to implement, Karen has a way of bringing people together to create buy-in which is critical for a school leader. It was a joy to work with Karen because she is a consummate professional. I never had to worry about whether things would be set up according to our agreement and in such a way as to provide a pleasant and welcoming environment for her teachers. It is surprisingly rare for this to happen. The care and attention to detail that I observed in Karen, as well as her vision for increasing achievement for all students, is just one example of who she is as a professional. I'm absolutely positive those professional skills, character, and care would be an incredible asset to any school with Karen in a leadership position.
