Karen is the ultimate professional with an exceptional eye for detail and keen analytical skills. She is genuinely passionate about education and always goes the extra mile to ensure every aspect of safeguarding is covered. Karen is the go to person for advice and insight on educational matters; what she doesn't know she will find out. All of the above are factors contributing to her being brilliant at her job. What makes her so lovely to work with is her great sense of humour.

    • Head of Recruitment and Safeguarding
      • Sep 2014 - Present

I currently lead the 'Candidate & Compliance Team'. Together we search for potential candidates, meet with them face to face and ensure all compliance checks are carried out on all our staff. My responsibilities include searching for, then meeting with, support staff (including administrators, cover supervisors, teaching assistants and behaviour support workers), teachers (Early Years, Primary and Secondary qualified) and educational leaders. I spend time getting to know teachers and support staff so we can find them the role that meets their needs and utilise their skills. On a daily basis I meet teachers and support staff from all sectors. I work closely with them, getting to know exactly what it is they are looking for, using the Teachers' Standards and meeting with them face to face helps build a picture of them as a professional and an individual. I liaise with our consultants to ensure teachers and support staff are placed in the school/setting that is right for them. I ensure all compliance checks are carried out so that I know that every member of staff we place in a school or educational setting is safe to do so. Giving peace of mind for all. I organise and run a range of CPD for candidates and deal with all safeguarding issues. Show less

    • Head Teacher (Acting)
      • Sep 1996 - Aug 2014

I have worked in a number of primary schools in the Yorkshire region. I began my career as a teacher in Key Stage 2. Over the years I have taught all primary age groups, including Early Years, in a number of roles. When I decided to leave teaching (although I've not really left as I still do some one to one tutoring) I was an acting Head Teacher and SENCo. During my teaching career I was also a 'Leading Maths Teacher' and a 'School Based Tutor' for Leeds Met (now Beckett) University mentoring many trainee teachers and NQTs. I have worked very closely with local Secondary schools on transition and SRE projects. Show less
