      Part of the West Virginia University Health Care system, Berkeley Medical Center (230 beds) employs ~1,000 staff and supporting positions within the community. Collaborate with department leadership and support staff using indicators such as regulatory agencies, new policy development, new technology, and patient case study assurance monitors to prioritize educational needs. Assist in the assessment of new employee learning needs and orientation. Train staff on all new equipment; liaise with equipment and service vendors. Serve as a resource and role model for unit/division personnel. Supervise 28 Nurses and 8 Technicians. Also serve as liaison to 5 Orthopedic Doctors, 2 Neurological Doctors, and 1 Neurological Surgeon. Run monthly staff meetings for Orthopedics and Neurological floors. Report to the Hospital Director of Orthopedics. Assist in the development of annual competency analysis requirements and criteria. Interact with employees to discuss professional growth, personal concerns, and educational goals. Serve as a change agent in effecting appropriate changes within the health care delivery system as it relates to evidence-based practice. Complete 45 and 90-day performance reviews with manager input as appropriate. Also assist with unit recruitment and retention, cost containment, and resource utilization. Assist with meeting fiscal responsibilities by monitoring staffing, supply usage, and equipment care.  Added and integrated a Neuro department to existing Orthopedic department, which required 5 additional staff members, training, and equipment identification and procurement. Integration, which began in January 2018, resulted in an additional 12-15 patients a month to the floor.  Earned Stroke Certification with Joint Commission in 2010.  Successfully transitioned Orthopedics floor to EPIC (electronic medical record system) from paper-based documentation; train floor nurses and technicians on any system enhancements.
