Over my time served I have filled many roles supporting the missions and operations of the US Coast Guard. Most recently my role as a tactical coxswain and an officer of the day, entrust me with the responsibility of making life and death decisions. Demonstrating my ability to make difficult decisions while under pressure and multi tasking with driving a boat and keeping the crew onboard. As an officer of the day I work for the command, up holding policy and running the daily operations meeting mission requirements and executing search and rescue cases from open to close documenting each case appropriately and upholding CG Regulations during each case. While onboard USCGC Eagle, I trained the future leaders of the CG Officer Corp and the NOAA Officer Corp. Instructing them on how to navigate a large cutter by hand and understanding how the navigation equipment we rely on is calculating the corrections to courses. Aside from calculating courses, sun rise and set, tides, currents, winds, and position using celestial navigation; my main duties revolved around the maintenance and operation of the sails onboard this WWII Tall Ship. Working with the trainees, I taught them leadership and communication skills under the pressure of being 100+ feet in the air, or feeling the strain of a line in their hands with a few ton sail on the other end full of wind. My main contribution to the crew here was revitalizing the training program and adding resources and instruction for trainers that increased our success rate within one training period. Worked with students supporting speical education needs from gifted and talented along with students in need of extra support during lessons. I created individual support forms and resources that were tailored to each students needs. I worked through the summers to create eletronic versions of state cricculum, lesson plans and resources for students and teachers. With teachers having the ability to email and share objectives with parents of special education students we increased success and pass rates and could see in class participation and understanding improved from the average of 74% pass rate to an 88% pass rate for our students taking the state exams.
