Bio
Erin Burrows
I've had the pleasure of watching Karen grow as a leader over the course of three years as her adviser and her co-instructor in the upper-division course, Theatre for Dialogue. Karen served as one of the founding members and co-president of the sponsored student organization of Voices Against Violence,a program of the UT Austin Counseling and Mental Health Center to prevent and address sexual assault, dating violence and stalking. Passionate, dedicated, and visionary, Karen lead a team of student organizers to establish a reputation on campus for thoughtful events and campaigns around challenging issues to increase safety on campus. Projects included a social marketing poster campaign, "No One's Asking For It" and large public events to highlight the stories of survivors of sexual violence. Karen's sense of humor and ability to balance the need for group cohesion with achieving collective goals made her contributions invaluable and memorable.

Karen joined our Development Department as an intern, and she quickly made herself indispensable to the team. Karen held herself with professionalism beyond her years and effortlessly learned new skills and strategies to streamline workflow. She impressed us with her organization skills, electronically, through updating our database and overseeing mass mailings, as well as with sorting and storing hard files. When Karen was working on a project, I knew that I could trust her to not just complete it, but to do so quickly, with minimal supervision, to the highest possible standards. In the years since Karen's first Development Internship, she has grown and will continue to grow tremendously. She is driven by her passion, and will continue to grow her career with organizations that hold a mission that aligns with her own. Karen is relational, and knows how to culturally fit in any organization she joins. She receives my highest recommendation, and I always welcome questions about her performance and abilities if they are not sufficiently accounted for here.
