I began in the Purchasing Department at Martin Doors. My duties included: building purchase orders, building part numbers, updating part descriptions, receiving parts into the computer, meeting with vendors, updating vendor lists, and actively seeking new vendors. I also spent time researching various items that we might use in the future and specialty items that customers were inquiring about. I worked very hard to ensure that we were getting the best items at the best prices and that we were keeping a good relationship with our various vendors. This required face to face meetings and quite a bit of phone time. I learned quickly that by keeping a good relationship with my vendors, they were likely to be flexible with us when we needed an expedited lead time. I met with vendors from all over the country and even had a few vendors come in from China and Japan. This was a great learning experience for me. A large portion of my time was spent filing because we kept records of all of our quotes, part schematics, purchase orders, and order confirmations. This ensured that we could pull up the required information in moments because our files were always updated and in good order. We often needed help down in the Receiving Department. I would cover breaks and fill in when we were short staffed. In this position, I would inspect goods coming in to ensure that they were in good shape and in the quantities that we had ordered. I would then label the incoming inventory with our parts number and put it away. I kept track of where things were going and communicated this with the Purchasing Department. They would then enter the locations and quantities into the computer. I enjoyed the physical aspect of the work in the Receiving Department so much that when an opening came up, I jumped on it. As soon as I became full time, I learned more about the flow of inventory on the production floor, keeping Kanban filled, and learned to drive a forklift. I soon became team lead.

Inside Sales Representative/ Director of Warranty Repairs and Shipping

Oct 2011 - Oct 2013
My duties included mining for new business and reaching out to old business that had not been active, taking orders, communicating with our biggest dealers to ensure that their needs were met, handling weapons that came back in for repair, logging them into our system, tracking them while on our premises, and shipping them back to their owners. I was also in charge of filing the proper paperwork with the ATF in order to build SBRs and SMGs. This required great attention to detail. I communicated on a regular basis with the shop manager to make sure that production was on track so that I would be able to communicate any delays with our dealers. The most physical aspect of my job at Vector Arms was in the Shipping Department. I boxed and shipped all outgoing items on a daily basis. If there was any free time from my normal duties, I would help out in the shop. I learned to use the sandblaster, tear small parts out of UZI lowers, and dip parts into the parkerizing tank. Parkerizing is a process for rustproofing iron or steel by immersion into a hot acidic solution of a metal phosphate.
