The Opacity project aimed increase the transparency of digital processes affecting users' privacy. By giving end-users insight in how their data are handled, companies can actually show that they are dealing with these data in a responsible way. Providing such insight also boosts customers' trust in online businesses. Because the Opacity kernel could also be used for auditable logging, it could be used for the secure logging of critical processes e.g., the logging of (serious) adverse events in clinical trials. Although the idea seemed attractive enough, especially with the GDPR coming up, we never made it further than demo/test integrations. Yet another lesson learned. Show less
