Development of a Central Control Unit (CCU) for monitoring and reducing the degradation in a second-life Li-ion battery to be utilized in a PV-based application. The intention is to re-program the BMS through an external unit (CCU) with optimum control of key battery parameters in its second life. The tasks carried out are: • Literature research regarding the procurement of Battery management system (BMS), controller, communication portals, sensors, etc. • Battery models are developed for State of Charge (SOC) estimation, SOC-Voltage estimation, State of Health (SOH) estimation, and for charging and discharging strategies. • A time-domain algorithm for CCU has been developed and implemented in the MATLAB-Simulink environment. • The algorithm and the model developed are tested on the hardware setup (comprising of BMS, controller, SPI portal, etc.) which validated, overall, the design concepts of CCU.
