My job included stable maintenance as well as leading a cabin group of children and youth. The equestrian responsibilities included daily feeding and horse turnout, grooming animals as well as administering medications when necessary. I worked in a team of four people and cared for 8 horses and various barnyard animals. As a regular counsellor I would be assigned a weekly group of approximately 8-10 children or youth with various disabilities. Each week would be specific to a certain illness such as children on the Autism Spectrum, youth from the Canadian National Institute for the Blind or individuals with Down Syndrome. Each week and each disability had specific protocols, accommodations and behaviour management techniques. Show less
