During this Community and Public Health Professional Placement Internship, I spent twelve days in Kirakira, Solomon Islands addressing the suboptimal nutrition within the community, hospital and school settings. I worked with a team to implement a project plan across the three settings, which included communicating with stakeholders, facilitating nutrition education and training sessions and developing culturally appropriate resources provided to patients and staff within the hospital. During this Professional Placement Internship, I demonstrated my competence in food service dietetics, while working as part of a team for The Lantern Project organization. This project provided me the opportunity to visit multiple aged care homes, interacting with both residents and staff to identify innovations being made to improve the food and dining experience for residents. My peers and I created a series of seven short videos entitled "The Little Things" for social media release, with the goal of inspiring other aged care facilities to implement small changes to enhance the food experiences in their homes. This placement allowed the opportunity to showcase positive experiences in a creative and engaging way. Show less

During this Professional Placement Internship, I was provided the opportunity to enhance my skills across a broad spectrum of clinical areas including palliative care, mental health, and hemodialysis. I spent two weeks at the Robina Health Precinct, where I provided nutrition care to a number of clients with chronic diseases both on site, and in home visits. These experiences served as a great introduction to clinical dietetic practice and provided me with supervising dietitians, all of whom contributed immensely to my learning. Show less
